I rescued four ex battery hens at Easter, what a sorry state they were in when they arrived. Their beaks had been clipped, their claws were overgrown, they had barely any feathers and totally lacked any of the skills that normal chickens have. We were told that they would probably never perch as it would be alien to them, they didn't know how to scratch and they were understandably very timid
A few months later we have four happy chickens who give us tasty eggs and a great deal of pleasure. They come running for treats and have almost got all their feathers back. Sometimes, time permitting, I just sit with my little flock and watch them enjoying life.
